
Keeping Bathrooms Warm Without Blinding Everyone
When you’re putting a heater in a bathroom, a waterproof seal is only half the battle. The real trick with IP44 infrared lamps is figuring out how to get that instant, cozy warmth without turning the room into a blinding spotlight. Think about a baby’s eyes. They’re incredibly sensitive. You can’t just blast a high-intensity light in a small, tiled room and call it a day. The “Glow” Factor Most standard infrared lamps are just too bright. They create this harsh glare that honestly feels like you’re under a heat lamp at a buffet. It’s stressful on the eyes. To fix this, we tweak the light spectrum. We use specific quartz glass and internal coatings to filter out the aggressive visible light. The result? A soft, gentle glow. You still get all that deep heat needed to warm up a damp room, but you don’t end up squinting the whole time you’re in the shower. Dealing with the Water (and the Heat) An IP44 rating basically means the unit can handle splashes from any direction. We use high-temp silicone gaskets to keep the moisture out of the electronics. But here’s the thing: when you seal something that tightly to keep water out, you accidentally create a heat trap. If the air can’t move, the internals will just cook themselves. When you’re installing these, make sure there’s a bit of breathing room around the chassis. A little bit of natural airflow goes a long way in keeping the driver electronics from burning out. The Trade-off Since we’re filtering the light to protect your eyes, you lose a bit of brightness. But let’s be honest—you’re installing a heater, not a reading lamp. If you absolutely need a bright room and a warm one, your best bet is a dual-circuit setup. Put in some LEDs for the light and keep the IR elements for the heat. For most of us, though, the trade-off is a no-brainer. You get a safe, waterproof heater that feels great and doesn’t hurt to look at. Just make sure to wire it to a GFCI circuit to stay safe, and it’ll keep you warm for years.
