
Getting the Heat Right in Your Husky HyPET System
If you’ve spent any time with high-speed PET blowing, you know the struggle. You need the heat to hit the center of the preform wall, but you don’t want to torch the surface in the process. It’s a balancing act. Most standard lamps just waste energy on the outside. We decided to fix that. Our replacement lamps are built to fight that “cold core” problem, pushing the infrared deeper into the material so the elasticity stays consistent all the way through. Power and Heat We’ve spec’d these lamps for high wattage because HyPET lines don’t wait for anyone. By tweaking the voltage and wattage, we’ve created a high heat density. The result? You hit that glass transition temperature much faster. It speeds everything up. Just a heads-up, though: this kind of heat puts a lot of pressure on your oven’s ventilation. If your cooling fans are clogged with dust, you’re asking for trouble. Keep them clean, or you risk overheating the whole chassis. The Build We use heavy-wall quartz glass here. Why? Because thin tubes bow when they get screaming hot. We also rely on an internal halogen cycle to keep the tungsten filament from evaporating too quickly. It simply makes the lamps last longer. But the real secret is the coating. We apply a specific layer to the quartz that shifts the emission spectrum. Instead of the IR waves bouncing off the surface of the PET resin, they actually sink in. Getting Them Installed These are simple drop-in replacements. They fit right into the original Krones S24 and Husky footprints without any fuss. We use precision-milled end caps so the pins seat firmly in the sockets. That’s important. Loose connections cause arcing, and arcing kills lamps. Before you wire up a new set, do yourself a favor and check the contact tension on your sockets. It takes two minutes, and it saves you from dealing with annoying hot spots at the terminals later on.
