Sidel SBO and Matrix Heater Replacements: Getting the Heat Right
If you’ve ever worked with PET blowing, you know the headache of trying to keep your heat profiles consistent. It all comes down to the lamps. If they don’t fit the oven footprint perfectly, you’re fighting a losing battle. That’s why we built our replacement lamps to be true “drop-ins.” Whether you’re running the old-school SBO models or the newer Matrix series, these just work. The fit has to be spot on. Here’s the thing: in this business, a couple of millimeters is the difference between a smooth shift and a disaster. If a lamp is even 2mm too long, you’re risking a cracked quartz tube the second you try to seat it. Too short? You get cold spots and uneven heating. We’ve matched the OEM specs for length and end-cap geometry exactly so you don’t have to worry about it. Then there’s the power. Sidel ovens pull a lot of voltage to get that heat into the PET preform quickly. That puts a massive amount of stress on the connectors. To stop the arcing that usually kills terminals, we used reinforced contact points. It’s just a sturdier way to build them. Better quartz, better results. We use high-purity quartz with specific coatings that shift the infrared spectrum. Instead of just scorching the surface of the plastic, the heat actually sinks in. We also use a halogen cycle to keep the filament centered. This stops that annoying “burn out” you see in the cheap, low-grade tubes. And don’t worry about your wiring. We use standard R7s or SK15 bases depending on which SBO generation you’re using. You don’t need to rewire a single panel or mess with the lamp holders. You just pull the old one out, slide the new one in, and lock it down. Easy. One quick heads-up… These high-intensity shortwave lamps put out a ton of heat. It’s great for your cycle times, but it means your oven’s cooling fans have to work harder. If your cooling system is clogged or starting to give up, these lamps will bake your reflectors. Keep your airflow clean. It’ll save your equipment and keep your lamps from dying early.
